    1. Financial Wiz

It's insufficient to just read amounts. Your accountant should be able to sit down on your first visit, flit through your balance sheet and give you an immediate and precise reading of the state of your company. If on first visit they can't do this, grab your hat and make for the door! You need a fantastic accountant and direct and honest guidance can practically feel numbers and business well-being. They are able to do it nicely and they may do it instantly.
    2. Large and Small Graphic Thinker

    Xero Hamilton
This really is vital. A good accountant understands the detail of your financial statements. This is what all accountants are trained to do. But a great accountant understands the global or structural strengths and weaknesses of your finances and moves beyond conceptualises and publication reconciliation. They develop and see excellent outcomes for your own business and give you a roadmap of guidance on how exactly to get there.
    3. Have They Grown Their Own Business?

What is the state of the own business? Can it be in sound condition? This doesn't mean they have created a corporation, but what it does mean is they have an excellent running business or company that's healthy and thriving. Have they taken hazards? Are they proactive and progressive? Do they apply modern technologies? These are good indicators. Choose note if this is happening and if it is, you might be in the correct position. If not, locate a beanie who is doing exactly that!
    4. Good Communicating

Does your accountant adhere to account - speak or do they follow best practise plain English included in their communications policy with clients? Are communications strained and laboured or simplified so there's mutual understanding and clarity? You've let's understand this is one of the single most significant qualities to you. Clients tell us they want great, plain, clever help. They do not want to learn about academic theories on the development of taxation laws in NZ over the past thirty years!
    5. What Type of Team Does Your Cpa Have?

A great cpa isn't afraid to fire team players who are not performing for you, the client. An excellent cpa will keep searching for vital team players who contribute to a superb job. They go beyond and above to source team members who deliver not just a set of financials, but quality financials that maximise your return and ethically without cutting corners. There's no sloppy at Slaters. It is all about an excellent team. From Tina (our simply brilliant front of house reception individual) through to Harsha, (the leader of our Financials Team) and Beth and Shareena. Excellent staff - longstanding members over many years - great people who work well together for the team and client.
    6. Understands a Great Business Model.

It's not about some financials. A fantastic cpa gives you the capacity to develop a really great, complete business model over several years. We're proud to say we have clients who have been with us 25 years and some of these have been challenged to grow and prosper their businesses even when it is been distressing! The ones who have stuck with our huge graphic strategies reap the benefits. Have a think about moving on if your accountant doesn't help you develop a healthy, longterm business model.

Up front payments and costs that are clear? And we don't mean "bundling bundles." We decided against these some years ago in favour of greater transparency. A clear, fixed price as you are able to pay off or pay in one fell swoop. (Bundling is a monthly payment that can eek away in the background without you ever completely accessing the complete deal. It is a confusion for customers as they're locked in to their package and can not ever really get anything without paying extra dollars. We don't do that. Not translucent enough for Slaters and we have seen it eventuate into relationship dislocation between associate and customer.) Easy to make a meeting? Are there annoying and sneaky hourly rates concealed somewhere in the fine print? A fantastic cpa is completely transparent about costs and is also quite accessible. They are not difficult to talk to and return to you fast via email, phone calls or free meetings. At Slaters you can even pop in and catch Brad and Brett for no additional cost, on the hop. That is ease!
    8. Trustworthy

This really is a biggie. Clients have reported that they're really more comfortable having an accountant who is NOT out and about at every social function and assembly. You've told us a fantastic cpa isn't boozing it up at the bar and letting loose with your private financial issues. There's a code of ethics to adhere to, and this also must be taken very, very seriously. An excellent cpa understands they're working with the financial heart and soul of their customers and their families and honours that information so.

These are just a couple of the key components you need to search for when sourcing a great accountant. We hope it helps you. And remember, should you be looking to change beanies or locate one which can actually help you, do not hesitate to email us in at the office on brett@slater.co.nz . You can also book a free appointment online here . Make an appointment and talk with Brett about improving your financial future.
